Calculation of funding

Download the calcuation guide to see examples of green roof reimbursements.

Calculation guide

The calculation of the total green area will be determined by the surface area of the green roof or vertical greenery parallel to the surface.

To be calculated as part of the total green area, green roofs and vertical greenery have to be:

Uncovered and exposed to the sky;
OR
If covered, to be open sided and naturally ventilated and be on external surface;
AND
Highly visible to either the public or occupants of the building.

Hardscape areas such as footpaths, seating, water features, etc., are not eligible for funding and will not be included in the total green area when calculating the reimbursement total.

Potted plants will not be counted as part of the total green area as they can be easily removed.

The reimbursement will be recovered on a pro-rated basis, over 10 years, should the green roof be removed.
